Frequently asked questions about cantonal flags

Which sizes are available and what do cantonal flags cost?

Printed cantonal flags in weatherproof Starflag fabric (approx. 160 g/m²) come in eight sizes from 80 × 80 to 350 × 350 cm: 80 × 80 cm CHF 86, 100 × 100 cm CHF 94, 120 × 120 cm CHF 104, 150 × 150 cm CHF 119, 200 × 200 cm CHF 183; large formats on request. All 26 cantons are available from stock in Neudorf LU.

Which flag size fits my flagpole?

Rule of thumb: 6 m flagpole → 120 × 120 cm, 7–8 m → 150 × 150 cm, 10 m → 200 × 200 cm, 12 m → 250 × 250 cm. Following Swiss tradition, cantonal flags are square. In wind-exposed locations, choose one size smaller.

Printed, flamed or appliquéd – what is the difference?

Printed (screen print on Starflag) is the weatherproof, colourfast standard version for all 26 cantons. Flamed is the traditional version with a flame pattern, finished in Neudorf. Appliquéd means the coat of arms is sewn on in fabric – a hand-sewn one-off from our sewing workshop. Flamed and appliquéd versions are available for selected cantons.

What material are the flags made of?

The standard is Starflag, a weatherproof, colourfast fabric of approx. 160 g/m² for permanent display. For wind-exposed sites there is Powerflag (165 g/m²); for decoration and indoor use the lighter fabrics Dekoflag (60 g/m²) and Starlight (115 g/m²).

How do I care for a cantonal flag properly?

Take the flag down in storms from 75 km/h, hail or sleet – this considerably extends its life. Wash soiled flags and re-stitch frayed edges early; on request our sewing workshop in Neudorf takes care of washing and repairs.

How fast is delivery and what does shipping cost?

Stock items are usually delivered within 1–3 working days, to Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Parcel shipping from CHF 15, free shipping from CHF 1,000 order value. Purchase on invoice with 30 days to pay; unused stock items can be returned within 7 days after notification.

Are there cantonal flags for flag throwing as well?

Yes. Cantonal flags 121 × 121 cm for flag throwing are available printed for all 26 cantons (CHF 385) and sewn/appliquéd for Fribourg, Lucerne, Solothurn, Ticino, Zug and Zurich (CHF 395) and Schwyz (CHF 450). They are grouped on the Schwinger flags page.
